Instructions

1

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish and set aside.

2

Cook macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

3

In a saucepan, melt 3 tbsp butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.

4

Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens (about 5 minutes).

5

Remove from heat. Stir in cheddar and mozzarella cheeses until melted. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.

6

Combine cooked macaroni with cheese sauce. Pour into the prepared baking dish.

7

Mix breadcrumbs with 1 tbsp melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over the mac and cheese.

8

Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and the top is golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Chef's Tips

  • Cheese Choices: For extra flavor, mix in Gruyère, Gouda, or Parmesan cheese.
  • Creamier Sauce: Add a splash of heavy cream or evaporated milk for a richer texture.
  • Crispy Topping: For extra crunch, mix panko breadcrumbs with the regular breadcrumbs.
  • Spice It Up: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or mustard powder for a slight kick.
  • Make Ahead: Assemble the dish ahead of time and refrigerate. Bake just before serving.
  • Leftovers: Reheat in the oven or microwave with a splash of milk to restore creaminess.
